Taco Truck!!

Ever since I followed the Taco Truck on twitter I have been dying to try them out!! Always finding the truck  far from where I am, that task has been delayed BUT finallllyyyyy after 3 weeks of patiently waiting, I managed to try the TACO TRUCKKK!!

Teeheeeeee! xD

Fish, chicken or potato?? That's their menu! Wasn't hard for me to decide, chicken and potato is it!! We for the taco set for two to share which comes with a side of tortilla chips. The chicken came with the soft taco and the potato came in the hard crunchy tacos. The potato taco was yum, although it lacked seasoning of salt, it was still yummy! But the chicken taco omg, with corn spilling out everywhere ( I love corn!! ) yummmmmmmmm!!!

So just a little fun post this time :D Just to add a little excitement in life, follow the taco truck!

P/S: THANKSSSS JOHN + JIAMINNNN for chasing the taco truck with meeee xD next stop! gumbo kitchen and the beatbox kitchen!!

Mama Baba

Short and Sweet...

Mama Baba is George Colombaris' latest restaurant, located on Daly Street at South Yarra. The focus of this new restaurant creates dishes that make you think fondly of your grandmother, but with the newness of today in terms of ingredients, technique and flavours. The dishes that are served are simple and uncomplicated BUT with incredible flavours.

With an open kitchen and a very modern, soul set up, the dining experience is indeed different and homey. The menu was very much pasta based with very interesting and different selections. As a little snack starter we ordered some CROQUETTES with Crab and sweetcorn to start. With a crunchy layer and a soft delicate flavour of the crab, it was nice and expected, not a mind blowing starter dish. To continue, I ordered their HILOPITES with Rabbit stifado, apple cider, mustard & pancetta. With the first mouth full of freshly made pasta, which was cooked beautifully might I add, was yummmmm! How am I suppose to go back to ordinary packeted pasta now! My rabbit was tender and juicy as well, with a generous portion of it too! JM ordered the RAVIOLI with Truffle pecorino, duck ragu & asparagus. Firstly it was hilarious when JM found out there was only 3 ravioli on her plate, I quote "how is this suppose to fill me up?!?!?!" hahahahhaa but anyways the dish was yumz, duck was cooked well and was deeelicious. Sharon went with their MAKARONIA with White balsamic braised lamb, chestnuts and oregano. Lamb was tender and again the pasta, freshly made and cooked to perfection was absolutely a delight to out palates. Also we ordered a side of ASPARAGUS with marjoram vinaigrette & ricotta salata.

Now for dessert! We ordered the House Italian Mess as well as 2 scoops of ice-cream, organic cola sorbet and a Milk and Milo Ice-cream! Surprisingly the Italian mess was not as sweet as expected and was actually really nice! It's funny how I've always wanted to try Eton Mess and ended up trying the Italian mess first. The organic cola sorbet was wooooooooooooo! First taste and we got out eyes popping, it taste like cola and it was awesomeee! Milo ice-cream was not as exciting, would love the flavour to pop out more but still yum-o.

George Colombaris definitely didn't disappoint, Mama Baba gets a huge thumbs up from me :)

Cuban Grilled Corn on the Cob with Queso Blanco & Lime

Corn has always been an ingredient close at heart for me. My first dish made for this blog was a 4 texture corn dish as well, looking back, man that was literally a year ago! So just for a little bit of fun, I have decided to try out this simple recipe of grilled corn on the cob with some Cuban style spice mix top up with some Queso Blanco and lime!

Ingredients
4 corn ears in husks, silks removed
2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp paprika
1tbsp salt
6 tbsp butter
1.2 cup finely grated queso blanco
1 lime, cut into quarters

Methods
1) In a large saucepan filled with salted boiling water, cook corn in husks for 8 minutes. Meanwhile in a small bowl, combine chilli powder, paprika and salt.

2) On a medium grill or in a broiler, grill corn just until char marks are visible on husks. Remove and let cool. Pull back husks, rub corn with butter, and sprinkle with cheese and paprika mixture. Serve with lime wedges.

There you go! Simple as pie and boy it was yummy! Just a heads up, go easy n the paprika powder if you're not one for spicy food but yea, hope you guys will enjoy this little dish!

Macaroni & Cheese inspired by Wooly Bully

So lately I've been craving for Wooly Bully's macaroni and cheese with spinach and mustard. Sounds easy enough so I decided to try making my own rendition of it. Easy enough I boiled the macaroni first then sauteed it with some butter, add the spinich, wholegrain mustard, 4 blend of cheese and salt, pepper to taste1. Transfer into a baking dish and sprinkle more cheese, pop it into the oven and voila!! Easy as 123 and ABC!

Afterrrrrr!! :D

Elceed

Having stumble across this cafe at the start of the year, I have been meaning to pay it a visit but it was hard having Twenty & six Espresso, Fandango and Auction rooms just around corners and I always end up going to familiar places to have my brunch cravings satisfied. BUT! hahaha the day has come!! I finally decided to bring my sisters over to Elceed to have an early breakfast and boy were we NOT disappointed cause the food that they served were absolutely lovely!

Having a really homey and cosy interior, the surrounding just makes you feel right at home, like being in your grandma's kitchen on an early Sunday morning with pancakes mmmm :) Starting with drinks, we had a chai latte and a hot chocolate. The chai latte was really good, with a good tinge of spice, drizzled with warm honey on the top, great balance and it definitely hit the spot and warmed the body up straight away! The hot chocolate on the other hand was abit of a let down, quite diluted for my taste although my sister loved it. Also I realised that the guys in the next table had mush mellows with their hot chocolate and ours didn't! Would love to have some soft gooey mush mellows on ours too! They had a good wide selection or fresh juices and iced green tea which my sister was eyeing the entire morning but we were so stuffed in the end but we had to give it a miss.

Food time! We were spoilt with choices from the menu but in the end I decided on the open scotch sandwich with beetroot relish, pickled onion, rocket, roasted rosemary and garlic potato chunks & chutney. Sound more like a lunch dish ey? but that dish lasted me for the entire day! The scotch was cooked to absolute perfection being medium rare, the meat was juicy and succulent and man the combination of the chutney and beetroot relish was gold. My sisters kept nipping my potatoes away cause it was yum! Rustic plating on a wooden board, love the plating! Yin went with a grilled paprika chicken burger with rocket tomato filling. The chicken was moist and juices were released with every bite. The bread was fluffy and grilled nicely which showcase the awesomeness of simplicity :D Ping was a sweet tooth person so it was no surprise that she went with the Brioche French toast with baked apple, bacon and maple syrup and when the dish came her eyes absolutely pop! She couldn't contain her excitement and just started eating without waiting for Yin or my dishes to arrive! Hmpf! hahaha

Overall we were very happy with breakfast and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu and of course the juices as well :)
